Watercolor and hearts 1st birthday party!

Last weekend I decorated my first 1st birthday party! The party was for my friend Michele’s daughter Sophia. Michele enlisted my help to create decorations for the big day, which was a casual backyard affair, infused with fun, summery, watercolor-inspired decorations! Oh, and lots of heart shaped decor too!

I love that Michele was cool with me hanging garlands from her house!

Also the mylar HAPPY BIRTHDAY SOPHIA garland was really fun! We got the letters from an Etsy shop called The Paper Kit

I love how all of the watercolor decorations came out. The tablecloths used for the cake display and candy bar were inspired by a tutorial I saw on Oh Happy Day. That tutorial used india inks but you can use regular fabric dye diluted in water. I also dyed a few sheets of watercolor paper, and used them for a bunch of decorations, including Sophia’s party hat and the heart toothpicks.

Also don't you love the birthday cake with watercolor icing that Michele made?

These fringe streamers were a last-minute idea that I set up before the party. Making streamers like this is really easy! You just need wide sheets of crepe paper (cut into thirds) and then you fringe it!

That's all the photos I have right now to share! If you like anything you see and would like help with your next party, contact me! I'd love to help!

Oh Christmas tree....

For the past 4 years, my husband and I have purchases a baby sized Christmas tree, which we would ceremoniously decorate together in our tiny 380 square foot apartment. But this year we live in a new apartment that is almost twice as big as our last one so we got a tree that was twice as big!

So without further adieu I present to you our average sized Christmas tree featuring our small but growing collection of ornaments and colorful lights. I also made a ribbon chain using gold, silver, cream and neon pink ribbon, and hung some of my tiny glass bottles and agates! Still trying to figure out what to put on top of it though!

Sneak peek - A fall wedding in Central Park

To say that I have been busy these past few months is an understatement. It's been almost 7 months since I attended Making Things Happen (blog post to come on what I've been up to...) and since then I've been working nonstop! Summer has come and gone with barely any tan lines to show for it, and I've spent more time listening to podcasts than talking to friends.

But its moments like this past weekend that make it all worth it. I had the honor of making decorations and creating all of the flower arrangements for my friends Beth and Blake - two great people who are perfect for each other, and had the perfect fall wedding on the roof of a building in Central Park. Their wedding would've been beautiful without my decorations - but I am so happy I had a chance to contribute to the day.

Here are some photos from the wedding that I took showing some of the details I made including the wax paper leaf garlands that hung inside the tent, hand painted bar menu, fringe tissue tassel drink stirrers, and some of the flower arrangements I put together using bottles I've collected over the past few years.

Once the professional photos are done I will be sure to share those!
